If you are already registered, you can subscribe at any time by going to the Plans & Pricing page, there you can choose the plan that fits your interests and budget.

TELL ME ABOUT SHARING ARTWORK?

You can share your work at the bottom of each Motion or Scan page, where you will find an "upload artwork" button. We love to see the artwork the community creates for the site. Our goal with the artwork section is to inspire other artists (ourselves included) with different styles, techniques, perspectives, and experience level. There is so much to learn from looking at other people's work, so we encourage people to SHARE! Note that you only need to register on the site, not subscribe to be able to upload your artwork ( and of course, you retain the full copyright to the work that you create and share).

WHY DON'T YOU JUST SHOOT 4k VIDEO?

Good question. The answer is resolution, lighting, and freezing motion. We like to control all aspects of the final frame and the highest-end DSLRs give us enough frames per second to capture the motion, while using flash lighting to freeze the action with flash durations in excess of 1/1600 sec. This is just not possible with video.

I HAVE A SINGLE-USER SUBSCRIPTION, CAN I USE THE SITE FOR TEACHING CLASSES?

Informally yes, but if you are using the site as part of a school, university or for-profit education/courses you will need to contact us for a multi-user or site license. The email again is: subscriptions@bodiesinmotion.photo

I AM AN ARTIST USING THE MATERIAL AS REFERENCE, CAN I USE IT FOR COMMERCIAL PROJECTS?

If you have a Professional subscriptions, you can use the the material as reference for your commercial artwork (but you cannot use or republish the site's content directly, e.g. use one of the photography on a marketing brochure). As reference for artwork (drawing, painting, sculpture) you will be fine, unless you are copying the photos exactly and selling those as your artwork. Detailed studies for personal projects, portfolio, or as an otherwise small part of a larger composition are allowed.

ARE THE SCANS AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD AS OBJ OR ZTL FILES?

We do not make the models files available for download, they are presented for reference and study only. However if you have found a scan/s that you would like to use for a commerical project, please get in touch about licensing the actual 3d model.

WHAT ARE SCAN LIGHTING VARIATIONS USEFUL FOR?

We've created a number of preset lighting variations to help study the figure under varying illumination. No single lighting setup can reveal all the form in a figure, so having access to a few different setups shows the planes and contours of the body in different ways. And some of the lighting setups are just fun to draw from. Drawing from a rim lit model, for example, is a great exercise in understanding the silhouette and contours of the figure. If you are a sculptor, the specular lighting variation, gives incredible highlights and reflections that help you read the smallest undulations of the surface, great for observing small anatomical details.

HOW OFTEN IS CONTENT UPDATED AND WHAT ARE THE NEXT BIG RELEASES?

We aim for weekly content updates, usually either new Motions or new 3d Scans. All future content are included with an active subscriptions.

WHAT IS THIS BODIES IN MOTION ABOUT?

Bodies in Motion is an ever-expanding library of dynamic figure reference for artist featuring both photographic and 3d resources. The photography is shot as sequences of crisp high-resolution stills in the tradition of Eadweard Muybridge. The 3d Scans are captured using a state-of-the-art camera array that freezes dynamic poses from 120 camera angles simultaneously and then creates a full 3d model from the result. Our goal is to make Bodies in Motion into the site into the largest, most useful figure reference reference site on the internet. If your art requires reference and understanding of dynamic poses and anatomy you will get great value out of the site.
